Hello Skippers & Crew,

I'm sending to Joan's BYC email list for the first time so I hope this works in one shot.

May Cup begins May 2nd. Only two weeks away. I saw Gossip is in the water already, congrats. So far I've only received three entries, Loki, Wave Equation and Swans' Way. Please send entries in even if you don't yet have your PHRF. We can always adjust that later if it changes from last year. The entry form is on the website and attached along with a protest form should anyone need one. Please note the entries are to be mailed to me this year as Joan will be away for part of the month. FYI the calendar is updated on the website and

It is short notice but I'm asking those of you who can attend to come to a skipper's meeting this Wednesday at 6:30pm at BYC. I'd like to discuss changes in the NOR and SI which Joan and I will be issuing shortly. Some corrections need to be made to the NORs and SIs that I had the webmaster post on the website (sorry again Ken).

Skipper's Meeting Agenda
1) Protest Procedure
2) Antigua Barbuda Cup
3) Chaos Challenge
4) Sail Fest
5) Cruising
6) Junior involvement
7) Rules Seminar Sun 5/27 at Shelter Island Yacht Club
8) Should do something different or goofy on 6/20 (B.I. Race week).
i.e. skipper swap w/ +5 PHRF

Best Regards,

Chris

Race Management Seminar – on Sat. May 5, the Shelter Island Yacht Club (SIYC), Eastern Long Island Yachting Association (ELIYA) and US SAILING are sponsoring a one-day Basic Race Management Seminar at the SIYC clubhouse from 8am to 5:30pm. The seminar is designed for people who have some race committee experience. The seminar will cover race committee objectives, race committee responsibilities, sailing instructions, race committee jobs, race committee equipment, and race preparations including setting the line, setting the course, finishing, post-race responsibilities and the various penalties and scoring systems. Those interested in becoming a certified US SAILING Club Race Officer must attend such a seminar and pass the associated test. The reservation form and more details are on the ELIYA (www.elisailing.org).

Racing Rules Seminar – on Sun. May 27th, 2012, SIYC/ELIYA will host a Seminar that will be presented by Jim Ryan. The location will be the Shelter Island Yacht Club (12 Chequit Ave., Shelter Island Heights – 631-749-0888). It will run from 9:30 to 11:00am. The reservation form and more details are on the ELIYA website (www.elisailing.org).

A COUPLE NEW RACES

The Sag Harbor Cup isn’t being run this year, but “Spritfest” is being renamed “Sailfest”. The ELIYA BOD’s decided that it will be included in the ELIYA CRC Series because it is open to all ELIYA boats, since it has been expanded to include non-spinnaker and spinnaker PHRF boats as well as One Design boats. It will be run on Saturday, June 2nd.

On Saturday, Aug. 18, there will be a new race on the East End - The Antigua Barbuda Challenge Cup. The organizing authority will be the Breakwater YC. The overall winner will be getting a super prize of a trip for the skipper and up to 6 crew members to Antigua Race Week (end of April 2013). It will include airfare, hotel accommodations and the use of a boat to race (entry fee of $750 included). Only boats of 22 ft. or more and an ELI-PHRF rating of 200 or less will be able to race in the Antigua Barbuda Challenge Cup. It will be a fundraiser for 2 East End charities and there will be a great party afterwards. More details will be on the ELIYA website at a later date and on the race’s website (http://www.antiguabarbudachallengecup.com/)
